Just cook.

What are we cooking today?

FamCook helps you find the right answer – without the stress.

FamCook brings your whole cooking life together in one place: recipes from all sorts of sources, what everyone at the table likes, planning, portions and the shopping.

FamCook pulls it all together and does the maths. All you have to do is choose what goes on the table – and you have more time to cook.

Friedemann, the FamCook cooking assistant
“Tell me who’s eating and what matters to you – and to everyone else at the table. I’ll make planning, shopping and cooking as easy as possible for you.”
Together, not each on your own

FamCook doesn’t just organise recipes. It organises eating together.

Everyone in your group can record what they like, what they avoid and what they must not eat. FamCook then builds search and planning around the people who are actually eating.

👥

Not everyone you cook for has to use FamCook

FamCook keeps everyone’s needs separate and brings them together at the point where you’d otherwise have to sort it out between you. Children, guests or anyone else you cook for can be included without necessarily having to use FamCook themselves.

You enter this once: what they like, what they avoid, what they must not eat. From then on it counts every time that person is at the table – in the recipes you see, in the planning and in the quantities.

🔗

Less going back and forth

You can share plans and shopping lists and work on them together. Everyone sees the same thing, instead of a string of messages about who’s cooking and what’s still missing.

🧠

Understanding, not more filters

FamCook puts three questions together: what is this ingredient and what does it do? Who are you cooking for, and what matters to them? And what role does this ingredient play in this particular dish?

So you don’t just get whatever happened to slip through a filter. You get a suggestion that fits the people at your table and the dish itself.

Friedemann has an idea
“The complexity can keep growing on my side of things. For you, it should only get simpler.”

That’s one of the core design principles: FamCook should use what it knows about your situation, rather than asking you to work through ever more screens.

Hi, I’m Friedemann.

I’m not just a chatbot.

I know what’s going on in your FamCook, and I’ll speak up unprompted when it saves you a job. Different needs at the table shouldn’t make cooking harder work for you.

And it stays up to you: you can open my tips whenever you want them.

🥕

Ingredient tips

I give you the useful bits about ingredients, shopping and cooking: how to spot the good stuff, how to store it properly, what’s in season, or what to watch out for when you cook it.

And I show you what FamCook can do for you right where you are. No looking it up, no hunting for it – it’s already there.

↔️

Swapping ingredients

Not in the shops, doesn’t agree with someone, or nobody likes it? Then I don’t just look for something similar. I look at the role that ingredient plays in this dish: what has to stay the same – and what’s free to change?

A swap can taste quite different, as long as taste wasn’t the point here. And the closest match in the world is no use to you if it doesn’t provide the binding or the texture the dish needs.

I do that weighing up for you. You get alternatives that work, with a quick note on why they work here – and you pick the one you fancy.

💡

Similar is not the same

Whether an ingredient goes in fresh, dried, ground or soaked can change its role completely.

And two things being related doesn’t mean they behave alike. Coriander leaves and ground coriander seeds may share a name, but they don’t play the same role in a dish.

So I rule out what won’t work in the dish, even when it looks like the obvious answer. That leaves you with swaps you can actually cook with.

How FamCook should feel

Four steps. As little admin as possible.

You find a dish that suits you and the people eating with you – and you don’t have to make the same decisions again at every step after that.

Say who’s eating

You set up your group once and note what matters to each person. After that you never type it in again.

Find dishes that fit

FamCook searches and rates the recipes for you. You get a sorted shortlist, not a wall of results to work through.

Plan and get the amounts

A recipe turns into a real plan: the right day, the right people, the right amount. FamCook does the scaling.

Friedemann planning

Shop and cook

The ingredients from everything you’ve planned become a single shopping list, combined rather than listed recipe by recipe. When it’s time to cook, external recipes take you back to the original source.

Friedemann doing the shopping
More than a recipe site

The difference isn’t one more feature.

It’s that everything works together.

FamCook connects the people you cook for, and what they need, with the right recipes, with what it knows about food, and with your planning and shopping.

Here’s an example. Knowing you don’t like cream isn’t enough. Knowing cream is a dairy product isn’t either. It’s only when you also know what the cream is doing in this dish that you can say whether it can be left out, cut back or swapped – and for what.

Which means you don’t have to join those dots yourself. FamCook has already joined them up for you, right where you’re making the decision – searching, planning or shopping.

Where we stand

What FamCook can already do – and what is still missing for the beta.

Here you see what you can do with FamCook, how far each area is and what is still missing. The figures are calculated from verified evidence, not maintained by hand; “verified on the test system” means it was really tried there – something only built locally does not count as done.

Plan together and agreeWho eats, who wants a change – and everyone agrees.
What you can do: The household plans together: who eats, what you cook, what someone wants to comment on or change. Requested changes are visible, and you agree – without needing a messenger.Missing for the beta: A fixed deadline after which silence counts as consent (the decision is pending), step-by-step trials in the browser and acceptance in daily use.

Find, import and create recipesYour own cookbook from search, import and input. What you can do: Recipes reach your cookbook from search, imports, your own input or an AI suggestion – and are available to the whole household.Status: Basic functions already run; the beta status has not been evaluated yet.Missing for the beta: We do not measure progress for this area yet. Before the beta we mainly check clear messages for unsupported sources and the whole flow in everyday use.

Suggestions that fit youPreferences and restrictions count everywhere. What you can do: What the people at the table like or do not eat is taken into account in search, planning and suggestions – as far as possible everywhere by the same rules.Status: Already runs; the end-to-end check is still pending.Missing for the beta: We do not measure progress for this area yet. Before the beta we check end to end that every promise (for example when omitting or replacing an ingredient) is kept.

Shop togetherOne list, several hands.
What you can do: The plan turns into a shopping list that several people use at once: tick off, add, hand over tasks. Other people's changes are not lost.Missing for the beta: Proof that two people shop at the same time on their devices (and the list refreshes when returning to the app), and acceptance in daily use.
83 %verified on the test system
Learn from experienceSay briefly how it was after eating.
What you can do: After eating, everyone can briefly say how it was; someone can also answer for children or people without their own account. FamCook remembers it per person and can use it later for better suggestions.Missing for the beta: Nothing in the product asks by itself after cooking yet; answers can only be given when a request exists. The use of answers for later suggestions is not evidenced yet.

Support while cookingStep by step through the recipe.
What you can do: Recipes can be read step by step. Next come the current step, timers and hints on why a step matters.Missing for the beta: The guided cooking view with step state, timers and hints.
53 %partly verified
Knowledge that really understands recipesIngredients, steps and equipment belong together.
What you can do: FamCook learns which ingredients, steps and equipment belong together and what a step does in a dish – so omitting, replacing and suggesting stay sensible. New knowledge is collected from vetted sources and continuously checked for errors.Missing for the beta: The check with 32 everyday tasks, running the collection and checking on the test system, and verifying the newly collected knowledge there.
45 %built, not yet verified on the test system
Reliable notificationsWhoever should act finds out – and lands right there.
What you can do: When something is due in the household – an answer, an approval, a shop – the right person hears about it, can choose how to be notified, and lands directly at the right place. Invitation, registration and account deletion work.Missing for the beta: Push messages and badges on a real phone, cleaning up completed tasks and everyday operation.
88 %verified on the test system
Images and screens that fit the recipeCoherent look, honest images.
What you can do: Recipes get images that truly fit the dish; while an image is missing, FamCook honestly shows a fallback. Copy, images and pages are coherent on phone and desktop.Missing for the beta: Recipe-faithful images (so far only in a pilot, the image stock is not approved yet), approved images for profile and groups and the page-by-page check.
15 %built, not yet verified on the test system
Stable, safe and beta-readyReports are handled, the whole journey is checked.
What you can do: Reported problems are recorded, fixed and rechecked. Before the beta the whole journey – from recipe through plan and shopping to cooking and feedback – is played through as a whole.Missing for the beta: The complete loop from report to recheck and the overall test of the whole journey (so far only part of it walked once by hand).

Looking ahead

Typing today. Just saying it tomorrow.

The direction is clear: FamCook should understand what you say, not only what you type into a form.

“Friedemann, Lisa’s out tomorrow but my parents are coming. And on Wednesday we need something quick.”

“Just tell me what’s changed. I take the new situation into account, redo the amounts and put an updated plan and shopping list in front of you. You decide what works – or ask me for something else.”

FamCook can’t do all of that yet. But a lot of what it takes is already being built behind the scenes: knowing what food is and what it does in a dish, taking different needs into account, and joining up the different steps of everyday cooking.

This groundwork is what will make that kind of support possible soon.

See you at the stove

FamCook isn’t meant to add features to your day. It’s meant to take work out of it.

And Friedemann? My job is to make sure you hardly ever have to think about how FamCook works.
